Donald “Don” James Martin, born on October 26, 1940, in Iowa City, Iowa, passed away peacefully on December 13, 2024, in Okemos, Michigan. He was 84 years old.
Don was preceded in death by his father, Douglas Martin; his mother, Gladys Martin; and his brother, Harry Martin. He is survived by his beloved wife, Carolyn Martin; his two sons, Darek and Dale (Cpd Lt.) ; and his cherished grandchildren: Tessa, Grace, Charlotte, and Gabriel. Don will also be deeply missed by many friends and former students whose lives he touched over the years.
A dedicated educator, Don spent his career as a teacher with the Saint Paul Public Schools in Minnesota before retiring. He earned his bachelor’s degree from Bethel College and later pursued a master’s degree at St. Thomas University. His passion for teaching left a lasting impact on countless students who benefited from his guidance and encouragement.
Outside of the classroom, Don was an avid outdoorsman who found joy in fishing and exploring nature. He also devoted time to coaching, sharing his love of sports and teamwork with others in multiple sports. His enthusiasm for life and the outdoors inspired those around him to appreciate the beauty of the world.
Don’s legacy is one of kindness, dedication, and a commitment to helping others grow. May his memory bring comfort to all who knew him.
