Retired Lieutenant Michael Patrick O’Grady, age 79, passed away peacefully on November 14, 2024, with his family by his side. Mike was the beloved husband of the late Mary Elizabeth, nee McGrath; loving father of Lt Col Kevin (Colleen) O’Grady, Margaret “Peggy” (John) Chronos, Mary Ellen O’Grady, Matthew (Elizabeth) O’Grady and Kathleen “Katie” (Barry, C.P.D.) Cunningham; cherished grandfather of Garrett, Bridget, Colin, Kevin, Nolan, Patrick, George, Catherine, Michael, Maggie, Matthew, Jr., Tim, Owen, Mary, Sarah and Daniel; dear brother of Martin LTC USA (Carol) O’Grady, Mary Kay (Ron) Romba, Patricia (the late James A.) Murphy and the late Francis O’Grady C.P.D., and he was a fond uncle of many. Mike retired as a Lieutenant with the Chicago Police Department after 35 years of dedicated service to his community. He was an amateur HAM radio operator with the call sign K9OG and had made many friends around the world. He will be dearly missed by his family and all who knew him. Visitation Tuesday, November 19, 2024, from 3:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Cumberland Chapels 8300 W. Lawrence Ave., Norridge. Funeral services begin at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, at the funeral home, and will then proceed to Our Lady, Mother of the Church in Chicago for Mass at 11:00 a.m. The interment will follow at All Saints Cemetery in Des Plaines, IL.
